University Council Holds Meeting Chaired by Abdullah Al Salem University President, Prof. Mona Suleiman Al Ahmad

Professor Mona Suleiman Al Ahmad, President of Abdullah Al Salem University, chaired the University Council Meeting No. (03/2026), attended by Council members, on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. The meeting was held in the University Council Meeting Hall at the Khaldiya Campus.

 

 

 

At the outset of the meeting, President Mona Al Ahmad welcomed the attendees and the appointment of Dr. Salman Khalifa Al Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, as an external member of Abdullah Al Salem University Council representing the government sector for a two-year term, in accordance with Public Universities Law No. (76) of 2019 and its Executive Regulations.

 

She also congratulated the university community on the resumption of in-person instruction for students and members of the academic and teaching staff during the Summer Semester of the 2025/2026 academic year.

 

Following the meeting, Acting Secretary General of Abdullah Al Salem University, Dr. Adel Abdullah Al Hussainan, stated that the University Council discussed the items listed on its agenda. The Council approved the minutes of University Council Meeting No. (02/2026), held on 15 April 2026, and reviewed the report on the implementation of its previous resolutions.

 

Dr. Al Hussainan added that the Council ratified the memorandum regarding the conduct of in-person final examinations for students in all courses, dated 24 April 2026. The Council also endorsed the circular issued on 2 June 2026 concerning the resumption of in-person instruction for the Summer Semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, effective 7 June 2026.

 

He further noted that the Council approved several key decisions, including the Phase III Curriculum (Years 5 and 6) of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, in preparation for welcoming the first cohort of students to the College in the 2026/2027 academic year. He added that, with this approval, the comprehensive academic framework and integrated curriculum of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Abdullah Al Salem University have now been fully established.

 

The Council also approved the annual leave regulations for academic and teaching staff at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as the Assessment and Examination Regulations for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program. These regulations govern all academic assessment processes for students enrolled in the MD Program, including formative and summative assessments, assessments that contribute to the Grade Point Average (GPA) and those that do not, assessment types, reassessments, re-examinations, examination absences, program duration, and assessment procedures.

 

Dr. Al Hussainan further stated that the Council approved the proposed Memorandum of Understanding between Abdullah Al Salem University and the British Council. The Council also approved Addendum No. (1) to the Cooperation Agreement between Abdullah Al Salem University and King’s College London.

 

At the conclusion of the meeting, the launch of the inaugural issue of the electronic magazine “Voice of AASU” was officially announced.
