Program Duration

4 years

Credit Hours

132 Hours

Biomedical engineers blend engineering with medical sciences to develop medical devices and equipment. They innovate in areas such as prosthetics, medical imaging, and artificial organs, aiming to improve patient care and healthcare outcomes. Their role involves designing, testing, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure that their creations are safe and effective. They also stay updated with the latest medical research to continuously advance their field. For example, they might be hired to do any of the following:

  • Designing medical devices like prosthetics and pacemakers.
  • Enhancing MRI and ultrasound imaging technologies.
  • Developing artificial organs and tissue engineering.
  • Managing hospital medical equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Creating software for medical diagnostics and treatments.

Instrumentation engineers specialize in designing, developing, and managing instruments and systems used to monitor and control machinery and processes. Their primary role is to ensure that these systems operate efficiently, safely, and accurately in various industrial settings such as manufacturing, chemical processing, or power generation. They work on sensors, control systems, and automation technology, integrating them to improve system functionality and reliability. Instrumentation engineers also analyze data from instruments to optimize performance and troubleshoot issues. Their expertise is crucial in maintaining the precision and effectiveness of complex industrial operations. For example, they might be hired to do any of the following:

  • Developing control systems for machinery automation.
  • Creating sensors for monitoring and measurement.
  • Calibrating measurement instruments for accuracy.
  • Troubleshooting industrial control systems.
  • Analyzing data to optimize process efficiency.
